- WG161 - Spring, Nicholas sailing to Trebizond, Lymond sailing the Mediterranean in search of his child and Gabriel, Thorfinn sailing between the islands of Orkney. Spring is the time when sons are born and love is recognized.
- WG162 - Summer is a season of contrasting events in Dorothy Dunnett's main characters' lives, beginnings and endings. For Thorfinn, readers see him enjoying life at sea, joining his wife to discuss the need for an heir and finally dying in his last fight against Malcolm. In very different scenes, readers see Nicholas sailing away from his successful voyage to Trebizond, chained and left to die at Kouklia, preparing for his marriage to Gelis which he hopes will be long-lasting and fulfilling and finally enjoying time with his family in the area known as Sevigny. In GOK, Lymond has just returned from exile and visits his mother and sister-in-law at Midculter. Later, he is attempting a meeting with Gideon Somerville to help clear his name. In RC, Lymond is embarking on the ill-fated voyage from Russia and facing the end of his marriage to Philippa in CM.
- WG 163 - Autumn finds all three heroes coming into times of deeply personal troubles. September is a month of memorable entrances. Lymond makes his entry into France as Thady Boy Ballagh and Thorfinn has an important meeting with Crinan, Abbott of Dunkeld. October is a month for playing games. For Lymond, there is the Papingo Shoot; for Nicholas, the game of tzukanion on the sands of Leith and his first meeting with Kathi; and for Thorfinn, the game of kings. November finds all three beginning to recover from near-death experiences. Nicholas is recovering from his venture into the heart of Africa with Godscalc, Thorfinn and Groa are recovering from the fire set be Rognvald and Lymond is on his way to Flaw Valleys after his imprisonment and threat of death by Margaret Lennox.
