Jottings about Events This category is for any pages related to Spits. Spits is a generic term for Dunnett get togethers. Sometimes these are named "Spits", e.g. I Spit East, I Spit West, Y'All Spit, O'Spit. Sometimes they have other names:

• Days (e.g. Oxford Day, Darmstadt Day)
• Gatherings (e.g. The Edinburgh 2000 Gathering)
• Sieges (e.g. The Dunnett Siege of Malta, The Dunnett Siege of Constantinople)
• Journeys (e.g. "A Journey to Lincoln", "A Journey to York")
• Other (e.g. The Dunnett Carnival of Venice, the Confraternity of Francis and Niccolo)

A number of them were called Spits (I Spit East (NYC? Philadelphia?), I Spit West (California?), Maple Spit (Dublin), Stake and Spit, O'Spit (Dublin 2001), Y'All Spit (New Orleans, 2003), the Dunnett Siege of Malta (2005), The Dunnett Congress of Alexandria 2008 (that's Alexandria Virginia, not Egypt or Scotland), Le Spit (Paris 2010), Rendezbruges (Bruges 2010), The Dunnett Siege of Constantinople (Istanbul 2012), Dunnett Confluence of Pittsburgh 2013, Dunnett Carnival of Venice 2016. Also SworDDplay in Vancouver (not sure which year). There were also the Gatherings in Edinburgh which Dorothy Dunnett Attended, in 1990, 1994 and 2000; also the big Philadelphia meeting in 2000 which DD also attended. As for "Plays" being put on, I'm only aware of two: the Francesco y Filipa opera for Edinburgh 2004, and the Nikado light opera which was performed at Edinburgh 2000 and Philadelphia 2000.

This in addition to the Annual Dunnett Weekends which have run annually in Edinburgh from 2001 onward (online in 2021 and 2022), Essex Day most years, the Confraternity of Francis and Niccolò which ran in Rye for most of the 1990s and the noughties, and the "Journey to..." events which ran in different locations in the UK (Bath, Warwick, Kings Lynn, Leeds, York, Alnwick are the ones I recall), plus various others. The last of these was Leeds in about 2017 or 18 I think.
