Letters
[edit | edit source]Australia
[edit | edit source]- Trisha Houghton - was suspicious of Julius from end of NR psychologically, not because of clues, shows DD's advance as writer; introduces her DD reading group led by Margaret Grant, thanks her, wonders how 'Gemini' would differ if DD's circumstances different?
Canada
[edit | edit source]- Marilyn Barry - report on Philadephia 2000, wonderfully organized by Nancy Silberstein], splendid Nikado and DD of course; visited bruges after and loved it--everyone should go; recommends historical fiction of Jack Whyte, based on Arthurian legends.
Scotland
[edit | edit source]- Joy Madden - happy memories of G2000 but also 1994 Orkney trip, under charge of Liv Schei, recounts Schei anecdote of woman in remotest island in Faroes, 2 miles long with 2 villages, woman in one village at 70 had never visited other, done at last as birthday treat
Wales
[edit | edit source]- Barbara Coe - Fascinating theory put forward regarding the origins of the Dame de Doubtance's effort to breed superman. She argues that the idea came from her father Dr. Andreas and that Jodi was the father of Beatris--so Beatris and Sybilla half sisters, accounting better for resemblances Lymond and Marthe. "I stand by my theory that Camille's lover was Jodi. N shows no physical desire for anyone but Gelis, also, Camille tells F (Lymond) she was close to his grandfather - Jodi is his maternal grandfather."
- Mike Brain - responses to WG070
England
[edit | edit source]- Linda Butcher - responses to WG070, doesn't think Muriella Reid could be ancestor of Gabriel through child by Henry.
- Caroline Burns - responses to 'Gemini', had to give up researched and apparently justified twin theory of and evil and good Nicholas in books; death of Margaret very hard to read; Margaret's 'pearl of doom' maybe passed on to doomed Eloise by Nicholas's granddaughter Sybilla
- Patricia Sitzia - also disappointed with 'Gemini', all our friends in Bruges and Venice left in limbo and no antecedents for Philippa
- Ros Williams - responses to WG070
- Audrey Beach - thank you for G2000 reports, impossible to take all in as attendee; responses to WG070; likes LC tapes, absorbed by writing so not put off by narrator's voice
- Cam Otten - thanks for wonderful G2000, delighted Julius such a fiend worth killing; all seem agreed on 4 children, Jodi, Isabelle, Rankin, Camille, but who are other two?
- Sandra Hall - in awe on 3rd read of structure of 'Gemini', picture of a man finding his place in society, but in a way DD gives us what she refused to write in life of Philippa and Lymond post-marriage: like Gelis and Nicholas 'trying to guide that other willful, almost self-destructive Queen'
- Felicity Dunn - G2000 memorable, feels mixture of relief and anticlimax at end of HN series
- Julia Bishop - glad Bonne is not Marian's child, anyone find in the HN the golden rose DD said was symbolic and is in LC and KH?
- Maggie Peacock - gives address for getting audio tape of GoK, recommends three science fantasy series by Weis and Heckman, Robert Jordan and Janny Wurts
- Pat Wilkinson - reports on Hanwell Dunnett Day, near Ealing, nine attendees delighted to meet one another
- Linda Davies - new subscriber to WG but fell for LC and Lymond 20 years ago, argues he is not promiscuous as some WG readers allege, lists sexual encounters, few and far between; found links between LC and HN fascinating but wished for links to Philippa, Kate, Gideon
Germany
[edit | edit source]- Sylvia Holz - read HN first, at Gathering with German contingent but met so many old friends from WG, DD wonderful, lectures perfect, outstanding Nikado (Printed first in MK069)
USA
[edit | edit source]- Ruth Barnett - tie in to CR in Grass's 'The Tin Drum', description of the lost post WWII figurehead of the Portinari-Tani galleon captured and sunk by Benecke, which led to witch burnings and sinkings, even Portinari's suicide, according to Grass's book
Zimbabwe
[edit | edit source]- Ann Hein - The Quest for Lymond, a Zimbabwean reader tell it how it was
