Letters
[edit | edit source]Australia
[edit | edit source]- Eunice Cruikshank - after HON, we need another book to follow CM, could JJs be reissued? It is useless to contact Australian publishers.
Canada
[edit | edit source]- Dorothy Hancock - report on G2000 a year late, DD wonderful, gracious; responses to WG072, likes Barabara Coe's idea that Jodi Beatris's father, Jodi, must have died in 1515
England
[edit | edit source]- Audrey Beach - Gelis, not sidelined in 'Gemini', insists on being Nicholas's equal business partner and is so happy and not jealous that others can share with him what she cannot, music or what Kathi offers
- inda M. Davies - enjoyed books without knowing of connections, had a splendid trip to Paris and Loire Valley, rue de la Cerisaie, valley of the Cisse, Tour des Minimes at Amboise highlights
- Ros Williams - responses to WG072, also sees Nicholas as a villain
- Sandra Hall - looking for clues in HN about Julius, most of the major traits in ch. 1 of NR, from his point of view, see soon his envy of Simon and his ambition; there is always something new to discover rereading DD
- Maggie Peacock - on Marthe, perhaps suffering from GSA, genetic sexual attraction, in her obsession with Lymond
South Africa
[edit | edit source]- Monica Davidson - read of roots of golf game on a plane leaving G2000, was outlawed by James II for interfering with archery practice, reinstated by James IV, a fan, and of course, DD got it right (UH in 1468)
USA
[edit | edit source]- Nancy Crabb - introduces self, discovered DD when mentioned at a fledgling writers' group, reluctantly read GoK till caught by courtyard scene at Threave and realized then and in other books her mastery
- Lillian Armstrong - wrote DD in 1985 and learned of MK, subscribed, wrote, met other readers through it, but none nearby, so very grateful, and met one in Scotland
- Merrie Kendrick - appreciates all MK writers but especially Karen Brandl and friends who kept it going, but of course, the books come in for the highest praise, this work stands alone
- Liz Ignatuk - a tribute to MK, Karen Brandl and Jean Clissold for great debates, theories of letterzine, and wonderful worldwide friendships which formed
- Printed only in MK073: Ruth Dunhowe - The last six paragraphs of DD's 'The Final Canon' summarize the whole of DD's work, 'the road, the bridge and the conduit' for readers rich, complex journey in the books, in a widening circle
- Printed only in MK073: Myra Morales - thank you, Karen, for MK's great content and the opportunity to know so many talented people and even to meet some of them
- Printed only in MK073: Joan Gmitter - sad at last issue MK, wants no more connections than DD gave between HN and LC, reports on G2000, on subsequent Scotland travel; notes on Philadelphia G2000, was on the committee for it but Nancy Silberstein the real head
- Printed only in MK073: Beth Rambo - LC changed my life, found no other readers, signed to MK just in time to attend Philadelphia 2000 and meet DD
- Printed only in MK073: Susan Silverman - husband and self-discovered LC in late '70s, enjoyed MK discussions, first contribution for the last MK
