Letters
[edit | edit source]Scotland
[edit | edit source]- Karen McKenna - glad WG will continue 2 years at least, response to WG067, loved all of Gemini, like KH in showing mutually sustaining partners, feels now the HN has matched the LC, the impact of CM
- Joy Madden - imagines DD at her desk finishing Gemini with quill pen and parchment
Wales
[edit | edit source]- Mike Brain - responses to WG067, some queries about Gemini, signing at Waterstone's in Manchester well-supported, great reading from sledge race between Henry and Jodi, DD suggested she might write non-fiction work based on her Thorfinn/Macbeth research.
England
[edit | edit source]- Annette Ward - having read Gemini tried to work out six children; wants WG to continue, impressed at way DD's works deal with range of social issues like disability, race, PTSD; her way with red herrings worth discussion (had worried about le Grant, ignored Julius)
- Stella Hall with Pauline Sparks - awaiting Gemini, visited Bruges, found bear, Adorne's church, tomb of Charles the Bold and more
- Kate Hannam - went straight to skim Epilogue in Gemini and relieved to find characters alive, fell for flawed Lymond in Henry and now happy he will live again in Lymond
- Jo Kirkham - visit to Museum of St John's Order, London, painting Leone Strozzi, cannon used at Famagusta, armour, paintings of Rhodes; always aware of DD connections, a debt to her
- Janet Angelini - Gemini not as effective as CM to end series, Nicholas seems blunted, Kathi strange over death of her child, too much left unexplained
- Ros Williams - dipped into Gemini, disappointed in epilogue, no Gelis-Nicholas scene, Lymond now has mediocre Crawford heritage
- Shirley Wade - very disappointed, not psychologically credible that Nicholas would protect Julius when he is killing the rest of his family, reread Nicholas perhaps as spider in center of web with lust for power. sentimental ending unconvincing
- Maureen Allan - Gemini a tour de force, DD neatly resolved nearly every puzzle, creates loving and happy family for main characters
- Linda Butcher - responses to WG067; opening pages Gemini reminiscent of opening GOK, L's return
- Avril Brodey - report on Gathering Edinburgh and Manchester book signing, DD's generosity of spirit
USA
[edit | edit source]- Jerilyn Falconer - will meet many in Philadephia, Yvonne Davis introduced her to LC; was so enthralled with Nicholas that didn't reread LC for several years, fell in love again--husband threatens suit for alienation of affections; did we discuss Russell's 'The Sparrow' she called a thank-you to DD for LC?
- Nancy Silberstein - Geminis tone elegaic, all has changed, Bruges no longer commercial center it was, etc., sadness too in knowing will never read another Dunnett historical for first time
- Miriam Sanner - responses to WG067, will be at Edinburgh, has anyone reconstructed 'puzzle' sent by Nicholas to his grandfather?
- Joan D. Gmitter - visited Poland, underwhelmed by the river Vistula, not wide, sparse traffic, but reconstruction Gdansk (Danzig), 90% destroyed in WWII, to 16th-century self is amazing, resembles Bruges somewhat with fully restored crane; Torun (Thorn) worth visit.
