Redirecting a Page
[edit | edit source]Often, people will refer to the same subject under different names. For example, someone might refer to (and search for, and link to) "Margaret Douglas". Others to Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox; others to Margaret Lennox, etc. This means that it's harder to find things in the wiki, and there is a risk that people might create or update multiple Margaret Douglas pages each with different information in. All these are bad things.
The way that this wiki (and Wikipedia) circumvents this, is by creating all those pages, but by deciding which page is the main page, and putting a redirect command into all the others. For the Dunnett Wiki, the main page is "Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox". Two other pages have also been created, entitled "Margaret Douglas" and "Margaret Lennox". However, those other two pages contain only the following contents: #REDIRECT [[Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox]]
This means that if some tries to navigate to those two pages, they will be (in almost all circumstances) instantly redirected to the page "Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox".
