Abstract

[edit | edit source]
  • Many fictional detectives are 'distinguished and defined by (their) eyewear'. Lisa Hopkins argues that various types of glasses and other visual aids are metaphors for ways of seeing and may tell the reader some aspect of the detectives personality. What is he trying to hide? 'The double vision afforded by bifocals is as much part of (Johnson Johnson's) identity as his doubled name and his duel identity as both a painter and a spy'.
