Abstract

[edit | edit source]
  • Lymond returns to Edinburgh, Scotland in 1547 when Edinburgh is still showing the ravages of the English "raids" of 1544. In an attempt to force the marriage of the infant Mary, Queen of Scots to his son Edward, King Henry VIII repeatedly attacks the city in what has been labeled 'The Rough Wooings'. This article explores the devastation these attacks caused relying on contemporary narratives, maps, a drawing of the chief engineer of the English force, and repairs as they were recorded in Treasurer's Accounts.
