Abstract

[edit | edit source]
  • Fragrances and aromas in books may be just part of the background, or they may be so intense that they are part of the story and cannot be ignored. In TLC, Dunnett uses fragrances to reflect the personality, spirit or mood of the character; hint at the presence of someone, stir memories or sensory erotic delights; expose perfidy and despair or provide healing or medicinal relief. They not only define a setting or a character, scents and fragrances bring another dimension to key scenes.
