Niccolò Rising Chapter 30

Plot Summary

Bruges's preparations for the White Boar Joust, and Marian and Nicholas's plans to avoid it and Simon, who will compete. Nicholas is about to leave for Milan and courier and condotteri business. Marian will go with him part of the way, to visit Thibault in Dijon and Jaak in Geneva. Nicholas arranges for Felix to be invited to Genappe, extracting him from danger. Simon arrives in a splendid train, including Muriella Reid, and learns of the marriage and business expansion. That night, the Charetty house and dyeworks burn down. Nicholas plans and salvages, and leaves alone with a bodyguard for Geneva and Milan.

Dates

Wednesday 16 to Tuesday 22 April 1460. The days of the week are referred to in the chapter, and we have been told that the joust is to take place on the Sunday after Easter - i.e. on 20 April that year.
