Fictional Character Notes

[edit | edit source]

Key characters (Fictional)

[edit | edit source]
  • Many fictional characters used in chapter pages are written differently to what is used in WG articles!!! Full names with titles rather than simple names. Cross referencing will be time consuming. Lots of inconsistency across these pages too. Question for Simon – is the Chapter version definitive – can we moderate these to match? Only relevant for linking pages to character pages that don’t exist.
  • Characters that feature across a whole series with no ambiguity keep as simple as possible, especially if second name is not referenced (eg Julius). Where character list is given in book, this is a good reference point.
  • Philippa
  • Sybilla
  • Kuzum (parentage unknown)
  • Marthe (surname is not given)
  • Characters that change name in series, suggest using the last name they are known by as the default, or the most popular one throughout the series, and if necessary add the pipe if the name used in the article is a different version to the default page:
  • Niccolò
  • Philippa
  • Use of pipe should direct reader to the main page (once generated) which is the final version of the name that will be used for the character. Before the pipe is the name given as the correct version, after the pipe is the preferred name used by the article author if different to the standard:
  • Kiaya Khátún
  • Gabriel
  • If pages are created to another version of the name that differs to the chapter ones, REDIRECT can be used to send reader to the correct page. Ideally, should avoid this by sticking to one version but…
  • Don’t generate any character biographical pages, as we need to ensure the names are consistent. Where the person is unlikely to have a character page, miss out the square brackets.
  • Character list given below includes examples of how pipe could be used.

Key Characters (Historical People)

[edit | edit source]
  • Refer to character lists in books or Wikipedia page if there is one for their version of the name
  • only use a variant if the author has included it: Macbeth
  • Create a page for major historical characters whose fictionalised portrayal is unique to the series, eg. Margaret Douglas, Anselm Adornes
  • Some characters are historical, but presented as fictional in that there is very little known about them, or the fictional representation is not common.

Are all characters known to be historical: Robin Stewart, David de Salmeton, Katelijne (Kathi), Dr Andreas, Robin of Berecrofts historically known? Preference would be to treat as fictional if they become part of fictional family tree or are highly fictionalised by Dunnett.
