Abstract

• Similarities between the two in Dorothy Dunnett's case are explosions and chases, puzzles, linking books in a long series, character development of the main protagonist who are male but who are surrounded by extremely varied and capable ladies, and most importantly, research into locations, professions and real history. The main difference also comes down to research research. More research is required for the historical novels because 'real' history is central to theymond and Niccoló series. Scholarly research is ongoing and new findings can either agree with or disagree with a plot development as already written.
