Overview and Issue

  • Article on the importance of libraries and private collections to Dorothy Dunnett's writing and to posterity in general.
  • WG161

Abstract

  • In this talk, Dorothy Dunnett discusses the many libraries and private collections of books, documents and correspondence that were required for her research into all the details of the 11th, 15th and 16th centuries. The many details included the broad historical picture, geography and place names, the people (what they looked like, what they ate and drank, what the wore, what were their homes like), travel, currency, etc. She laments all the information that has been lost through accidents, conflicts and deliberate malice.
